CHRISTUS Health receives grant to invest in clinical simulation for health care clinicians

In collaboration with the Permian Basin Workforce Board

2/23/2026

CHRISTUS Health is pleased to announce its collaboration with the Permian Basin Workforce Board in a grant-funded initiative that will expand access to high-quality clinical simulation training for CHRISTUS clinicians across Texas.

This Rural Health Initiative, a $2.4 million grant awarded by the Texas Workforce Commission through its Skills Development Fund, supports partner educational and health care institutions in delivering hands-on, simulation-based training aligned with CHRISTUS Health’s commitment to strengthening clinical readiness in rural communities.

As part of this effort, CHRISTUS Health is leveraging its longstanding partnership with Laerdal Medical, a global leader in simulation education and patient safety innovation, to provide immersive, high-fidelity learning experiences that enhance patient safety, clinical competence and quality of care.

This grant was awarded to several higher education partners, including Angelina College, Texarkana College, Texas State Technical College, Tyler Junior College and Odessa College. These schools span from Northeast Texas down to South and Southeast Texas. Nearly 500 CHRISTUS Associates across several facilities will benefit:

  • CHRISTUS – Atlanta
  • CHRISTUS – Marshall
  • CHRISTUS – Jacksonville
  • CHRISTUS – Alice
  • CHRISTUS – Beeville
  • CHRISTUS – Orange
  • CHRISTUS – Sulphur Springs
  • CHRISTUS – Winnsboro
  • CHRISTUS – Jasper
  • CHRISTUS – Kleberg

The Associates will receive about 2,000 training hours, furthering their education and readiness.

“Simulation transforms how rural teams learn, practice and prepare for high-risk events,” said Dr. Heather Delaney, system medical director of simulation and research for CHRISTUS Health. “With the support of the Texas Workforce Commission, we are investing in our people and strengthening clinical excellence across our rural ministries, key priorities within our mission. This work advances our CHRISTUS simulation strategy by creating equitable access to high-quality training, improving patient outcomes and ensuring we extend the healing ministry to each community we serve.”
